Vacuum Brazing – AWS C3.7/ AMS2678

At C/A Design, fluxless aluminum vacuum brazing is a core competency. Our process is designed to meet the strict standards of the aerospace and defense industries, ensure superior quality and performance for every component we deliver.

Precision and Control with Vacuum Brazing

Fluxless aluminum vacuum brazing is a sophisticated process that produces the highest quality joints in aluminum components. Complying with the stringent standards of AWS C3.7 and AMS-2678, our vacuum brazing process offers unparalleled precision and control

How Vacuum Brazing Works

Our state-of-the-art vacuum brazing process involves:

  •  Pre-cleaning:In preparation for the vacuum brazing process, all components are chemically cleaned to remove all surface contaminants and oxides, which can inhibit the process.
  •  Assembly and Fixturing: Chemically cleaned components are assembled with brazing alloy placed between all components. The assemblies are then fixtured to ensure uniform contact and pressure on all mating surfaces.
  •  Heating in a Vacuum Chamber: Assembled and fixtured components placed in a vacuum chamber, where they are heated to approximately 1100°F for brazing. The vacuum environment eliminates oxygen, preventing oxidation and ensuring joint purity.
  •  Process Monitoring and Ramp Down: During the brazing process, environmental variables such as oven temperature, oven atmosphere and component temperature are monitored. Once the component temperature reaches the desired brazing temperature for the specified duration, the oven temperature and atmosphere are gradually reduced to ambient conditions, allowing the part to be handled and further processed.
  • Advantages of Vacuum Brazing

Vacuum brazing provides a host of benefits tailored for critical applications:

  •  Strength, Durability, Reliability: Vacuum brazing offers superior strength joints for use in high pressure, high cycle, and high stress applications, making it the ideal choice for many aerospace and defense applications.
  •  Contamination-Free Joints: Vacuum brazing produces extremely pure, hermetically sealed joints, making the process ideal for fluid and gas bearing applications.
  •  Superior Performance: Designing for vacuum brazing provides superior thermal performance and flow characteristics, making it a critical technology to support the increasing thermal demands of the aerospace and defense industries.
  • Applications in Aerospace and Defense

Our vacuum brazing process is ideal for a wide range of applications, including:

  •  Flight Critical Aircraft Components: Enhance the performance and safety of flight critical components, such as engine control and communications systems.
  •  Mission Critical Defense Components: Ensures maximum durability and absolute reliability of mission critical defense components, such as Electronic Warfare (EW), Electronic Attack (AE), and Countermeasure systems.
  •  High Thermal Demand Components: Optimize assemblies for peak performance and maximum thermal efficiency for the most demanding requirements, such as optical and laser applications.
